Charleston – Responding to inquiries from reporters and concerned readers, William Moultrie, editor of theDiscust, refused to confirm or deny rumors that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley ordered theDiscust shut down and had him interred at an undisclosed location.
TheDiscust is known to be critical of Haley’s administration, so when the website abruptly stopped updating in late May, it prompted rumors and concern around the internet.
“Don’t worry everyone,” said Moultrie, “I’m fine and the website is fine. In fact, we’ve done a little housecleaning and updating and you’ll find a whole new design next time you visit.”
“As to the rumors,” continued Moultrie, “I’m not prepared to comment on the rumor that Nikki Haley shut down theDiscust and had me interred at an undisclosed location. I will say that we were going to make a big deal about the website turning two-years-old on June 1, but we had to cancel that plan.”
Contributors to theDiscust were also concerned.
“I was wondering what was up,” said Ashley Phosphate, irregular contributor. “Then I came across this rumor that Nikki Haley shut down theDiscust and had the editor interred at an undisclosed location and I kind of freaked out. But then I wasn’t sure what I would do about it so I decided to just let it work itself out. Seems to be OK now.”
Asked whether he would ever address the rumors that Nikki Haley shut down theDiscust and had him interred at an undisclosed location, Moultrie was non-committal.
“I’m here now and the site is up and running. I just don’t know what would be accomplished by continuing to talk about this rumor that Nikki Haley shut down theDiscust and had me interred at an undisclosed location. Maybe I’ll talk about it later, but I think we’re good for now.”
