Haley updates Facebook status to “Open Relationship”

by William Moultrie

Columbia, SC – In a move Statehouse insiders say is a preemptive defense against Will Folks’ upcoming tell-all book, Governor Nikki Haley has updated her Facebook relationship status to indicate she is in an “open relationship.”

That's what she said

That's what she said

“Clearly she’s tipping her hat as to what her defense will be when the book comes out,” said Ben Tillman, professor of political science at Furman University. “She isn’t going so far as to admit that any of the sexual encounter allegations are true, but she seems to be positioning herself to be able to explain it away should irrefutable evidence of the tryst(s) be produced.”

“She has said that she would resign if proof emerged that she had cheated on her husband,” Tillman continued, “but is it cheating if he knew about it?”

Calls to the governor’s press office for comment were not returned but the page hadn’t been changed at press time.

Haley has been accused of sexual dalliances with at least three men. The first accuser, Will Folks, continues to allege a series of meetings, “hookups,” and late night phone calls. Folks declined to comment on the change in Haley’s relationship status on Facebook, instead referring people to the book he is reportedly working on for release later this year.

“Look,” said Folks, “I’ve got this all worked out with my publisher and I’m gonna let a little bit out on the blog here and there for a while, but if you want the real juicy stuff, you’re going to have to buy the book.”

“The whole situation makes a lot more sense if she’s actually in an open marriage,” said Samantha Jones, a Columbia-area relationship and sex therapist. “In her mind she hasn’t done anything wrong, and if her husband is fine with her having a fling here or there, most reasonable people would probably agree with her. Of course the problem she has is that a lot of her support comes from the religious right who tend not to approve of such arrangements. And they’re not always reasonable people.”

Folks ran an article this week on his blog, FITSnews, about Haley’s husband Michael’s complete absence from any public activities.

Asked if he thought the governor’s husband might be off exploring his own angles of their newly public “open relationship,” Folks replied “I have no idea, or maybe I know everything… buy the book and you’ll find out.”

From Wikipedia:
An open relationship is a relationship in which the people involved agree that they want to be together, but in which romantic or sexual relationships with additional people are accepted, permitted or tolerated. To large degree this is a generalization of the concept of open marriage beyond matrimonial relationships.

I’m not a fan of the Govorner but let’s not be like the other side and get the facts wrong. Here official Face Book account didn’t say she was in an Open Relationship. It says that she is married.

I just checked Nikki Haley’s FB info, and it says, “married to Michael Haley.” There’s nothing there about an “open relationship..”
