Columbia, SC – With his two-term tenure as governor coming to an end, there’s been much speculation as to what Governor Sanford’s next career move might be, but now it appears he may be waltzing his way to Hollywood.
“We are always looking for new and interesting ‘stars’ to bring on the show,” said Dancing with the Stars’ (DWTS) Assistant Junior Producer Corky St. Cloud. “And, we’ve been very successful in recent season casting odd characters from the Republican party, and Governor Sanford certainly fits the bill.”
DWTS recently wrapped their eleventh season which featured several breakout performances by Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska governor and likely presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The ninth season of DWTS also featured a politcal celebrity with former House GOP leader and recently convicted Tom DeLay advancing into the middle rounds.
“I’m really excited about the next phase of my life,” said Sanford. “This has really given me something to do over these last few weeks as governor. Most governors would probably be spending this time collecting their stuff and packing to move out, but Jenny really didn’t leave me much, so Maria and I have been using the time to get in some tango practice.”
“I’ve also talked a few times with Sarah (Palin) about her daughter’s experience on the show and she was very encouraging. I can’t wait to get started.”
Some sources around the capital city are saying that Sanford is only doing the show because he needs the money, suggesting that he’s virtually broke and isn’t being offered the kind of corporate board positions that former governors can usually rely on. The vast majority of his marital assets were reclaimed by Jenny Sanford when she was granted a divorce earlier this year. Sanford’s outlook for qualifying for unemployment benefits is also bleak.
“We are very excited about Mr. Sanford,” said St. Cloud. “We have some fabulous outfits lined up for him and I think he’s going to be the belle of the ball.”
