Columbia, SC – Governor-elect Nikki Haley, who spent much of the last six months warning South Carolinians about the perils of electing lawyers, watched in horror this week as almost 40 of them were sworn in as state Senators and Representatives.
The lawmakers were sworn in on Wednesday while Haley’s inauguration is scheduled for January 12.
“I think it’s clear that if we don’t get anything accomplished in the next two years, it’s going to be because of the predominance of lawyers in the Statehouse,” Haley said.
“We’re going to try to get some accountants in to replace the lawyers in the next election, so if anyone out there is a fiscally-conservative accountant, I want to talk to you about running for the Statehouse. And don’t worry, accounting competency is not required.”
